Testimonials
"Kristin might have you believe that she teaches a yoga class,
but I have come to understand what she does in much broader
terms. She is one of the few striking examples in my mind of
folks who actually 'create community.' This idea can sometimes be
talked about in the realm of ideas or vision. Kristin humbly,
steadfastly weaves a very real thread of care among those who
enter her yoga space. Not only does she care about her student,
but somehow helps her students care for each other and for the
world."
"I had been looking for a sangha for a few years before I found
Kristin and it was clear once I attended my first class that I
had found it. Her teachings reach a great depth, not only in
terms of physical asana, but also within the realm of self-study
and spiritual awakening and awareness. I have been coming to the
sangha for a year and a half now, and feel like I have changed
profoundly. While these changes might not be visible, I feel
differently. Actually, the most important change is that I
feel!!! I have traveled a long road to start living in my body
(instead of in my head), and the refinement made possible with
yoga, with Kristin's teachings, is beyond what I was hoping for
myself. While what I see in the mirror may not be all that
different from a year and a half ago, how I feel in my body has
entirely shifted."
"Kristin creates a safe place for her students to come and
learn about yoga and about themselves. This is critical when you
want others to take the risk of exploring who they are and be
transformed by their experience. By supporting us in our
challenges, she also challenges us to find how much we really do
have within in terms of supporting ourselves. She continues
to demonstrate this using the metaphor of our bodies: we
really can be upside down in headstand without our world
falling to pieces, we can sustain the intensity of side angle
posture for another 5 breaths without collapsing, we really are
able to feel good in our bodies even though we may not 'attain' a
certain posture on a given day or ever."
"I will close by highlighting the fact that Kristin is
passionate about what she does, and about living life. In
addition to giving her students the highest quality of teaching
in yoga, she also transmits the love she has for practice. I feel
very inspired by Kristin. When I start feeling too negative in a
certain area of my life, I remind myself of how she approaches
her work, her practice, her life. I feel blessed to be her
student."
"Before I started taking Kristin Honey's yoga classes, I found
my range of motion in my neck, shoulders, and limbs to be quite
restricted. Despite regular chiropractic and massage, I was prone
to regular neck and back aches. Since taking Kristin's classes,
my range of motion at all joints and in all muscles has
dramatically improved. In addition, my neck and back aches have
been reduced to an occasional pain and only after unusual stress
on my body or mind. The benefits I've gained from Kristin's
classes far outreach the physical. I find myself feeling less
stress overall and my patience has greatly improved. In general,
I feel more physically and emotionally 'aware' of myself and of
those around me. And my spiritual awareness of those close to me
and the world in general has also heightened. There are many
things I love about Kristin's teaching style including her gentle
yet firm guidance to push myself beyond my limits but always with
an overriding care and concern for my well-being. I trust that
Kristin would never recommend a posture that I couldn't handle,
and I also trust that she will fully support and except my
choices to avoid creating undue pain for myself. I love Kristin's
delicate sense of humour that encourages a feeling of
'non-violence' and comfort in her classroom. I love that Kristin
shares with the class her own curiosity and exploration of the
most subtle muscle movements and efforts in postures; from her
exploration, I gain amazing distinctions that add to my ability
to improve my practice and gain greater benefits from my
postures. I would highly recommend Kristin Honey's yoga classes
for anyone who was looking to increase their overall physical,
emotional, and spiritual flexibility, strength, and well
being."
"Being a 'beginner' has never felt this good! Every yoga class
with Kristin is a healing journey into the unknown. I always feel
safe, informed, inspired and challenged. Kristin's yoga class is
an oasis where body, mind and soul really do connect."
"I had been taking Ashtanga yoga classes from a series of other
teachers in Toronto and elsewhere for about three or four years
before I came to Guelph and started taking classes with Kristin
Honey. In that time, I can honestly say that she is the best
teacher I've ever had. Kristin is warm and giving, and fosters a
class atmosphere that is non-competitive, where students are
encouraged to give their maximum effort, while respecting their
own limits. Kristin's frequent use of props such as blocks and
ties had really helped me make subtle adjustments in various
postures, particularly in terms of lower back protection in
positions such as the wheel and upward dog. Also, the creative
structure of her classes, which sometimes involve chanting, doing
postures before the sun salutations, or a major focus on one
area, like inversions, keep things constantly interesting,
helping students challenge themselves and avoid falling into
habits in their practice. On the whole, she encourages students
to concentrate on the process, not the product, making yoga into
a continual practice of mindfulness, learning, and evolution, not
a search for a set result."
"Kristin guides us gently but firmly during our class,
encouraging us to practice without judgment. It often feels like
she is speaking only to me, but everyone feels the same way.
After a yoga session with Kristin I sleep deeply and wake up
relaxed and refreshed."
"Yoga has been a beloved journey for me for fifteen years now.
Teachers have come and gone, my own needs of yoga have changed
over the years and probably always will. Finding Kristin and
experiencing her as a teacher reinforces why yoga is such a rich
lifestyle path to explore. Kristin clearly lives her yoga and
brings that depth of life experience into each of her classes.
She finds a way to lovingly challenge each and every student and
offers each of us a chance to navigate the deeper waters of the
self. She is committed to being present for each student and
every type of need that arises as a result of a yoga practice. My
own personal practice has grown as a direct result of Kristin's
teachings. I feel like I am getting stronger on many levels and
with Kristin's help I am trying to learn not to take myself so
seriously both on and off the mat. I am extremely proud to call
Kristin teacher."
"Thanks for the awesome experience! Not just last night , but
in every class you have given me something to focus on or attend
to in my practice, and at times I feel you must be reading my
mind and speaking directly to me. How is it that you can seem to
know the very thing I need to work on and make it the focus of
the class? You're a wonderful teacher…"
"I have thoroughly enjoyed your yoga sessions and can honestly
say that yoga has become an integral component of my life from
both a mental and physical standpoint. Of course, the teacher
makes a great difference and your enthusiasm and knowledge of
yoga has helped to make your classes a highlight of the week for
me."
"I feel fuller and more complete. All i can say is that for
years i searched for something but never quite fit in, the first
class i took with you i knew immediately that this was it."
"i feel so blessed to have kristin as my teacher. i had been
looking for a teacher for some time. both her classes and her
private sessions have blown my mind. the way she teaches, the
way she has explained the asanas to me, with her words and with
her hands, has completely altered my practice and my life. i am
a yoga teacher too, and my students benefit because kristin helps
to keep my fire burning"
