Restorative Yoga Workshop

Saturday, June 21st, 2008, 1-4pm, $45 tax included

Stressed, fatigued, in need of some rest? Come give yourself a three hour respite to unwind, renew and restore your whole being in the fully supported postures of restorative yoga. Recipient of the Yoga Journal Karma Yoga Award, Father Joe Pereira has been teaching Yoga for over twenty years. As a senior Iyengar instructor, he has worked closely with BKS Iyengar for many years and spent over twenty years working aside Mother Teresa. He is the founder of the Kripa Foundation, an organization with 37 centres that combines Yoga asana, and meditation with the twelve-step program to provide support for people living with addictions, Aids, and those living with HIV. Father Joe is well loved and highly respected for his selfless spirit and the depth of heart he brings to the practice of Yoga. Yoga and Pranayama : September 5-7 and 8-10, 2006

Ramanand Patel is regarded as a leading yoga instructor for students and teachers around the world. When he was twelve his father initiated him into Yoga practice and philosophy. After meeting a few other teachers, he started more serious study under BKS Iyengar in 1968. Since 1984 he has studied Vedanta philosophy under H.H. Swami Dayananda Saraswati. He has also learned from sharing his knowledge with a a vast number of students and teachers since 1964.

Ramanand is highly respected and credited as a major innovator in the use of props and working with students with special needs. Register quickly as space is limited and the workshop will fill rapidly!

Vinyasa and Transitions:  Breakdown and Play

Most injuries that occur in Yoga practice happen during transition from one pose to the next, when consciousness breaks down or fatigue sets in. We will explore some techniques to facilitate flow and transition and deconstruct vinyasa with the principles and fundamentals of alignment, strength and sound practice. Bring a sense of humour, honesty and play!

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga uses props and support in various poses to facilitate a deep release, an undoing, calming and quieting the mind. Asana are held for longer periods of time to encourage pranayama and a more organic experience of practice.
